Here is a little trivia. Gable end detail overhang cut and then rebuilt to hide the thickness of the over roofing rigid insulation. Secure the end rafters to the ridge board using 8 penny nails. One by 2 inch rake boards often cover the exposed top edge of the siding when there also is an eave overhang on the gable end.

A roof rake can be intricately designed. Use larger rake boards such as 1 by 4 inch and 1 by 6 inch when there isn t an eave overhang on the gable end. The rake can be smooth without the overhang or it can lift the gable end like an eave. Then load bearing roof beams fixed to the trusses are extended in the same way.

Barge boards decorative boards mounted under the roofing at a gable end traditionally timber nowadays usually upvc. Roof rake boards are installed in different widths based on the surface being covered. A composite decking made of solid materials it resembles real wood and particularly strong and stable for bearing heavy load. Make sure the ridge board sits level so your roof is straight.

The rake isn t exactly on the roof. The hanging rake then locks with the soffit and fascia or opens to the left. Use your hammer and nail the rafter in at an angle from the opposite side. Use 3 nails per rafter so they are completely secured.

They may be mounted flash on the end wall or stood off on an overhanging framework with a soffit underneath. Ladder trusses are made up using four noggins bridging at each corner to support a rafter outside the building. It is a term that describes the slanted sides of a gable end. I prefer to install the gable drip edge under the felt though that detail is less critical than at the lower roof edge or eaves.

After that you should fix the cornice board to the end sides of the ridge and the load bearing beams.
